Cicada

Cicada from Taiwan, formed in 2009, is a quartet whose sound can be heard from mainly the violin, cello, acoustic guitar, and the piano. The band was named after the Cicada because of its ability to make its existence known to people through their sound instead of their physical form.

In 2013, Cicada began to compose for Taiwan. The theme of Coastland (2013) was inspired by the west coastland in Taiwan while Light Shining Through the Sea (2015) was inspired by the east coast of Taiwan and the Pacific Ocean. These two albums personify the land and portray the feeling undergoing all the changes and damages. The band later collaborated with the Japanese label, flau, to release the third album, Ocean (2015), based on these two albums.

Their 2016 album, Farewell, included a selection of 14 songs from their debut EP, Over the Sea/Under the Water (2010) and albums Pieces (2017) and Let’s Go! (2012). This was followed by their album, White Forest (2017) , an album dedicated to animals including coral reefs, sea turtles, humpback whales, dolphins in the sea as well as cats in the city and birds in the mountains.
