Ryuichi Sakamoto’s 5th solo album, originally released on October 5, 1985, is a work built around the concept of “imaginary ethnic music”, created at the request of avant-garde dancer Morrisa Fenley. The album features meticulously crafted artificial folk music using the Fairlight CMI, enhanced with Art Linsley’s noisy guitar at key points. These elements blend seamlessly into a form-defying sound, exemplifying Sakamoto’s vision of high-tech, techno-inspired, universal ethnic music.
Recently reevaluated as a landmark in electronic and avant-garde music, this album is also one of Sakamoto’s personal favorites and a significant milestone in his career. The release includes a 2020 commentary and analysis by Eiichi Yoshimura and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
 
1985年10月5日に発表された坂本龍一5枚目のソロアルバム。前衛舞踏家モリサ・フェンレイの依頼によって制作された「架空の民族音楽」というコンセプトを反映する楽曲で構成されるアルバム。 フェアライトCMIを徹底的に駆使して作られた人工美あふれる民俗音楽に、アート・リンゼイのノイジーなギターを要所で取り入れ、それらが渾然一体となった形式にとらわれない音楽はまさに、坂本龍一が目指したハイテクでテクノな普遍的エスニック・ミュージックである。
電子音楽、前衛音楽としての近年の再評価進む本作は、坂本龍一もフェイバリットの1枚に挙げる自身のキャリアにおける重要作。
