Fifty years after its recording, the masterpiece "Scenery," which brought about a global resurgence in Fukui Ryo's reputation, has been newly remastered from the original tapes and released on SACD. Fukui Ryo first touched the keyboard at age 22 and began jazz piano at age 23. This album was recorded in September 1976, when he was 27, at the Yamaha Hall in Sapporo, with no audience. This masterpiece features a lineup of outstanding performances, including standard ballads like "It Could Happen to You" and "Autumn Leaves," as well as "Early Summer," a piece by pianist Hideo Ichikawa, a close friend of Fukui Ryo's at the time, which sparked a resurgence in the popularity of this work. This treasure of Japanese jazz, which has been shared worldwide via YouTube (14.04 million views as of July 2025), has pioneered the rise of Japanese jazz. (C)RS
