鈴木宏昌 – High-Flying (LP)

Hiromasa Suzuki, a composer / arranger / keyboard player who has been active in a wide range of Japanese music, including jazz, movies, TV and commercials. From the late 1960s to the mid-1970s, he was deeply involved in the works of Terumasa Hino, Akira Ishikawa, Jiro Inagaki and others in the most radical times. This work, “High Flying”, recorded in 1976, showed its innovativeness that was always one step ahead of the times.

The musicality that should be called post jazz rock / fusion eve is, so to speak, the ultimate crossover sound. The groove sharpened by a fine arrangement, like the master Korgen's face, is full of explosiveness and sprinting, and knocks down the listener. A masterpiece by producer Jiro Inagaki who called it “the ideal sound of the time”

ジャズはもとより、映画、テレビ、CMなど広く日本の音楽界で活躍した作・編曲家／鍵盤奏者、鈴木宏昌。最も先鋭的だった時代の日野皓正、石川晶、稲垣次郎らの作品に深くかかわりその手腕を発揮してきた60年代末から70年代半ば。常に時代の一歩先を進んだその革新性が、総決算的に発揮されたのが76年録音の本作『ハイ・フライング』だ。ポスト・ジャズ・ロック／フュージョン前夜とも言うべき音楽性は、いわば究極のクロスオーヴァー・サウンド。名手コルゲンの面目躍如、緻密な編曲により研ぎ澄まされたグルーヴは炸裂感と疾走感に溢れ、聴く者をなぎ倒してゆく。プロデューサーである稲垣次郎をして「当時の理想の音」と言わしめた名作。この鮮度と強度を今こそとことん味わいたい。text by 尾川雄介(UNIVERSOUND/DEEP JAZZ REALITY)
