Retrophonicrecords.com is an online vinyl record shop operated by Retrophonic Records LLP. Yes we are a physical music retailer as well.
Retrophonic is a boutique vinyl record shop in Singapore. We started in 2011 as a hobbyist business where we setup a small corner within our web design business and call it a ‘shop’. The original location was at 39b Keong Saik Road. The original shop only had 1 turntable, one rack with 300 records and that’s it. A very humble beginning indeed.
In May 2013, we moved to a new place at Chinatown Plaza. This is a 200 sqft shop front, tucked away in a solitary location within CBD area, between Tanjong Pagar & Outram Park. In 2014, we rented a warehouse unit next door. Business is thriving. In January 2013, we launched a website dedicated to selling vinyl records online – www.retrophonicrecords.com
By November 2016, the shop has expanded and we re-located our main showroom to a 400 sqft unit at 02-08 Chinatown Plaza. This space does not feel like a conventional record shop at all. If you have a chance to visit us, you will notice that it feels like a living room, and a library. It is an intimate space, much like your home. We love the idea that this cozy space allows our visitors to chillax, hangout and enjoy the music. No frills, no pressure to buy, no hard-sell sales person; just like your own private listening room.
In January 2019, we expanded again and relocated to a 1000++ sqft retail space at Duxton Road. By January 2022 we move again to a new unit closer to the new Maxwell MRT station. We are now located at 18A Duxton Road.
Between 2016 and 2020, we became dealer / distributor for multiple reputable HiFi brands such as Nagaoka, Pro-ject Audio, Ortofon, Goldring and HumminGuru etc. Retrophonic become a record store that carries turntables, phono cartridges, phono preamplifiers, accessories and more.
In 2020, our sister shop Wow Acoustics opened at The Adelphi with special focus on audiophile titles. In 2024, Wow Factor Records opened at Burlington Square.
Our latest expansion is a Retrophonic Express, a new music retail store at #03-58 The Adelphi.
